Sunscream is an experimental cyberpunk thriller written and directed by Soham Bagchi and Sneha Bhattacharya. The story follows two lost souls in a dystopian Kolkata, ravaged by the absurd chaos of a constantly screaming Sun. On one fateful night, Chase is rebooted by his old flame and partner in crime on a secluded roof. She informs Chase that his life is in danger and asks him to come with her. They make their way through the heavily surveilled city and find a somewhat safe spot to have a conversation, where Chase quickly learns that his partner has donated her brain to the Collective Consciousness Project, and will soon lose all her memories and free will. Chase's own identity and memories are brought into question as he confronts the possibility of not being in control. The two old acquaintances try, against all odds, to reminisce about their old days and find the remnants of humanity within them, or face the horror of its absence. Sunscream explores the posthuman experience of living in the digital ruin of the post-pandemic world we find ourselves in, where our memories, identities, and consciousness are stolen, sold, and controlled by the big corporations and governments as free real estate.
